Country Hearth Inn-Union City

The host handles check-in through an outside window, so it's hard to talk over the traffic on the road. Otherwise, it's not bad. For what it costs, this inn is fine, with a clean room, bedding, and bathroom. It seems secure.

Check-in was quick, and my room was clean enough. The breakfast door was locked, though. I didn't ring the bell at first, maybe I'm used to the no-contact breakfasts at other hotels. I can't imagine the place is so dangerous that they need to lock the doors during business hours. **EDIT** I came back and rang the bell because COFFEEEEE. It was 6:55, and apparently breakfast starts at 7. Fair enough, but nothing was ready. I waited for a third of a pot of coffee to brew. There was a waffle maker, but it wasn't on, and there was no batter or syrup. They had a toaster, butter, jelly, and cream cheese, but no bread or bagels. I think that if you're in hospitality, you should bring your A game, even at a one or two star hotel. **UPDATE** At 8:24 I went back for more coffee, and the milk I'd put back in the butter fridge had been taken away. Even if only one person is using the breakfast, the hospitality rule is to leave everything out until breakfast ends.

The staff we met were very friendly, and the location was convenient. I also liked the older feel and the classic touches like a coffee maker and cable TV. We only stayed one night, so we overlooked the smaller issues, but know what you're booking because you get what you pay for. The bathroom hadn't been cleaned before our stay. There was different kinds of hair stuck to the shower walls and curtain, plus dried soap stains. The coffee maker also had something that looked like mold in the filter area.

The owners are very nice, and we'll definitely come back. We've stayed here a couple of times for some time alone while waiting to close on our home, and enjoyed both the jacuzzi suite and the regular double-bed room. Both were very clean. It's a small, quiet, peaceful motel, so nothing crazy has happened. We're former truckers, and the sound of trucks at the nearby truck stop doesn't bother us.
