Days Inn & Suites by Wyndham Union City

Decent enough for one night, not too shabby. I'd book it again.

Hotel staff watch you on camera all day to see if you're smoking, then tell you that you can't stay even if you smoke outside in the designated area. Your clothes can't smell like smoke either. But they only raise these concerns with young Black people. They don't say anything to people of other races whom they see smoking. I'm a Wyndham Rewards member, and they treated me like I hadn't spent $100 a day at the hotel for a week and a half. The staff are nosey and stereotype their guests. If you don't leave at checkout and extend your stay, they'll watch your door like a hawk and watch you on camera too. I bet they wish they had cameras in the rooms.

We only needed somewhere to sleep after our flight was canceled, and the room and bed did that much. We’d hoped breakfast would be the day’s meal, but all they had was muffins and juice. When we asked about anything else, the response was really rude. Terrible service.

The room itself was pleasant enough: comfortable bed, working TV, quiet surroundings, and plenty of room to set down luggage, including two spots off the floor. If all you need is a bed and a bathroom, it works. Breakfast was a letdown. They call it “light,” but it was just standard chocolate chip muffins, juice, coffee, and tea. There was no butter or margarine, microwave, or plastic cutlery, and the juice machine was switched off. The front desk worker apologized and restarted it, so the juice was cold. Tea was available, though it tasted like the hot water had picked up coffee flavor from shared tubing. I’d expect a light breakfast to have bread or bagels, a toaster, spreads, yogurt, and milk too. Other similar hotels have also had cereal and make-your-own waffles. My service rating reflects the gap between what I expected from “light breakfast” and what was actually offered.
