America's Best Inn Urbana Champaign

We were told we'd get a refund in the morning, but that never happened. At about 1 a.m., after my boyfriend called the front desk about bed bugs, they accused us of bringing them in, even though neither of us had any. We had nowhere else to book or go, so we slept on the floor. The staff were completely rude and unprofessional. I wouldn't recommend staying here, and I hope others avoid it. We won't be back. This place should be burned down.

For one night at this price, it wasn't a bad stay. The beds were comfortable and, thankfully, had no little critters. The rooms are older, though the place felt reasonably secure. The one catch is the outside card reader for the building. It seemed close to failing, and I had to swipe my card several times to get in.

The location was the best part, with downtown Urbana and Carle Hospital close enough for a short drive or walk. The staff were pleasant, though they didn't go out of their way. If you just need somewhere to sleep, it'll do. It was decently clean but had visible stains, and the property feels very dated and needs general upkeep and maintenance.

The young guy at check-in was really helpful and nice, even after I'd messed up my reservation. The location is pretty good, and I recommend Analog Wine Library, Silver creek, and Cafeteria Company. For the price, the room was shabby and dated but clean enough, with good wifi. There were downsides: the hallway smelled like an ashtray, the water never got very hot, and the curtains let in the morning light. On my last night the toilet wouldn't flush. The older man who answered the phone was rude and made it sound like I was inconveniencing him. At 11 pm in February, I had to get dressed and go out in the cold to the office, about 100 feet from my room, to get a plunger from a closet. He said I needed to “be nicer.” I'm not staying here again.
