Hilton Garden Inn Des Moines/Urbandale

The night shift worker on the evening and night of November 12 was rude. When I called about our TV, she hung up before the call had properly ended. She did the same when my husband later asked for more towels. At the store, she was on her phone instead of paying attention to the guests. When we asked how to pay, she didn't look at us, just gestured at the machine and said rudely, "It's all self serve." The room wasn't worth $159+. It was outdated, had no bathroom fan, and one towel had a creepy stain. Our booking said the hotel offered an airport shuttle, but when my husband asked, she said, "No, we don't do that." I could've had better service and a better room for less somewhere else. I'll stay elsewhere next time.

My wife and I liked how clean and comfortable the room was, and having a Smart TV was a plus. The hotel is right off I-80, which is very convenient, with plenty of dining options nearby. Highly recommend.

The heat isn't working. I set it to 75 and expected to be sweating, but the room isn't even warm. The internet wasn't working either, so I asked for a reset. The desk told me nobody else had complained. I had to show the guy it really wasn't working before he reluctantly escalated it to someone who could fix it. I'm a Diamond member and spent almost 200 nights in a Hilton in 2025. This is ridiculous. I'm thinking about becoming a Marriot member. So that happened.

The restaurant staff were very nice and helped me get breakfast to go. The first room smelled like smoke, so we moved to another one that smelled fine. Unfortunately, its AC didn't work properly and made a sound like a plane taking off whenever it tried to start. It made for a long night.
