Super 8 By Wyndham Vallejo/Napa Valley

The bedbug problem made my recent stay at this Super 8 miserable, and the staff didn’t seem to take it seriously. I strongly advise against staying here. Save yourself the discomfort and possible health risks, and pick a hotel that cares about cleanliness and guests’ well-being.

The photos don’t match the building or the rooms, so save yourself the time. The elevator was broken, the room door had no inside lock, the sheets were in bad shape, and smoke had seeped through the whole room. We stayed only a few minutes before walking out and canceling the reservation. Luckily, I wasn’t charged. The receptionist didn’t look very professional, but the staff were nice and understanding when we left, and the cleaning staff were very nice too, so I’d give service three stars. When we arrived, it looked like some kind of deal was going down, and the girl nearby seemed suspicious. Later, as we went downstairs, people were sitting there smoking. Unless this is your only choice because of the price, don’t stay here, unless you’re okay with the smell of smoke and have an actual lock on your room.

The front desk woman was gracious and accommodating, a 10 out of 10 for her. But there were issues with the rooms and the noise. At check-in, there were no first-floor rooms, and with the elevator broken I had to carry my luggage up to the third floor. When I turned down the bed, I found human and animal hair. A smoke detector was in a drawer beside the bed. I asked downstairs for fresh linens, but they said nobody was on staff, so they gave me another room instead. That second room on the second floor was much cleaner, but it had no toilet paper or holder, no washcloth, and no hand towel. Those may be small things, but they matter in a hotel. The hotel is a couple hundred feet from the freeway, so it’s easy to get to I-80, but also very noisy.

We were a little nervous about booking after reading the reviews, but decided to risk it and were pleasantly surprised. The two rooms we had were clean and comfortable, pretty much what we expected for the price. Sure, they could use updating, but then we wouldn’t have gotten such good value. There were a few minor problems: some drywall damage from moisture in the bathrooms, a leaking toilet tank, and a funky smell in one room that disinfectant spray took care of. The woman at the front desk was very nice and recommended some great places to see during our stay.
