We had to switch rooms because room 115 had a strong mold smell coming from the AC. The staff were kind about moving us, and it made the stay much better. The place was clean, the beds were comfortable, and I liked being able to cast movies from my phone to the TV. The solid concrete construction kept out sound better than newer hotels do. The pool was cold. A good place to stay when visiting Poverty Point.

The breakfast was good quality, with real eggs, a fluffy biscuit, and grits. The room was clean, the WiFi worked well, the shower had good pressure, and the AC was strong. Looks like the rooms were updated in the last few years, with USB and USB-C outlets on both sides of the bed. For this price, it's a very solid hotel. I stay in lots of limited-service places while driving across the country, and it's hard to do better for the money.

The staff were very friendly, but the hotel didn't meet the baseline quality I usually expect from Best Western, where we stay for the economical rates. Our room had a strange musty, foot-like odor. There was a storm during our stay and the power went out in the middle of the night, making it harder to pack up with the kids. We also missed the breakfast we'd counted on to save a little money while out and about. A discount for the inconvenience would've been appreciated.

The hotel and its location were nice, but the way the room charge was handled was a bad experience. We thought we were just reserving rooms and leaving a card on file in case we didn't cancel in time. We asked what time we needed to call the next day if we didn't need the rooms, and were told they couldn't be cancelled and we'd already paid for a whole day. It had only been booked for 30 seconds. We hadn't signed anything and didn't realize we were paying for the whole day, we thought we were asking how busy and booked they were. I didn't ask for a manager at 6 a.m., since most hotels don't have one on duty that early. My wife called later, after the morning rush, mainly to ask what could be done. The manager said she'd reviewed footage showing us pay for the room and get keys redone, but apparently didn't know we'd immediately asked about cancelling. She accused us of trying to scam our way out of paying because we no longer needed the rooms. She was rude on the phone, but said she'd call back. After waiting without hearing from her, my wife called corporate. They said they'd spoken with the manager, reviewed the camera footage, and nothing would be done. My wife filed a complaint with Best Western. The manager sent a rather rude email mocking a spelling mistake she'd made and saying she should be ashamed for complaining, because it could have cost the front desk clerk his job. She also said $300 for two rooms was a small amount of money and not serious. It is a lot of money to me. This was a simple mistake that could have been corrected. I've read several reviews of this hotel, and the manager seems to bully people who leave negative feedback and never accept blame when something goes wrong. That's a $300 lesson learned. I've spent a lot traveling for work and vacation, usually stay at Best Western because it's my preferred brand, and spend $5,000-$10,000 a year there through my company reservations. I'll take that business elsewhere.

My room was super clean, and they brought fresh towels and cleaned it while I was out exploring. The staff were excellent and breakfast was good. It's an outside hotel, and I felt safe. I'd stay again.
