Super 8 By Wyndham Vicksburg

I expected at least a minimum standard as a Wyndham Gold Member, but now I know to inspect the room before paying, even at a Wyndham property. This felt like a $35-$40 room at best, with amenities comparable to a Motel 6. Each person got one small, scratchy towel, one face towel, one washcloth, and the lowest-quality basic soap. The “full breakfast” was one granola bar and coffee. I was told that's standard for a $90-a-night hotel and that better means paying $120 a night. I wouldn't book here unless I could cancel at the last minute without a fee.

Clean, nice rooms and a good basic place to stay. It's an older property, but well kept and non-smoking. The pool was open. There's no breakfast, so plan to go across the street. It's right next to the battlefield, which is a great spot if you're into history.

The room was clean, and the pool stayed open late enough for us to get a few minutes in after arriving late. The woman who checked us in was friendly and gave us useful information. I'm docking stars because we were staying at Wyndham and had been counting on free breakfast at the hotels on this trip to save money. There wasn't any, just coffee and a granola bar.

No frills, no fuss. You get what you pay for here, and it was exceptionally clean. They're strict about not smoking in the rooms, and I love how much attention they give to cleanliness.
