I’ve stayed at Red Roof Inns for at least two years while traveling because they’re convenient and I earn points. I’d never had trouble checking in at another location until this one. Employee Das canceled my room, which I’d booked in advance, because my debit card included my middle name and my driver’s license didn’t, even though those licenses don’t show middle names. He left me stranded in the middle of the night. I’m flabbergasted by the experience and don’t think he knows what he’s doing.
A quick, easy stay in a good little place. The room was spacious for one bed, non-smoking, with a functional bathroom, working lights, and a working fridge. But the bedsheets had old stains and there was uncleaned hair all over the beds. The room reeked of weed, apparently from people smoking near the non-smoking room. One charging port was broken, and the front desk could be more organized. One staff member was very inconsiderate.
My recent interaction at the Red Roof Inn front desk was disappointing. The associate was rude and dismissive, and gave me the impression they didn’t care about customer service or keeping guests. It felt unprofessional and reflected badly on the hotel.
The room smelled like weed, too. But what really appalled me was the man at the front desk, who said he was the owner. My disabled, elderly uncle politely asked about moving to a room in a more convenient location. Instead of checking what rooms were available, the man told him that walking farther was good exercise, despite his heart surgery the previous year, and the 90-plus-degree heat. When I asked him not to be rude, he turned defensive and nasty with me and said he didn’t care about losing customers. He never tried to look up another room or showed any empathy or interest in helping. I’ve spent my adult life working in service roles and can’t imagine treating someone who came for help that way. I’d never recommend this location. There are other nearby hotels with better access and similar prices, and another one is being built within walking distance of more food options. If that man really is the owner, people should know he may refuse to help and doesn’t care about customers. I feel sorry for his employees. What an embarrassment to hospitality.
After this recent stay, I had to delete my old five-star review. About a year ago, everything was great: spotless room, wonderful management, top-notch service, no problems, and the owner even replied to my review. This time was the complete opposite. At check-in, I was told there was a new $50 deposit policy, supposedly started that month. I’m a Ready Rewards member and have stayed at Red Roof Inn over 100 times, including this one 11 months ago, without ever paying a deposit. The desk agent waived it “just this one time” after I explained my history, but the interaction left me feeling like my loyalty didn’t matter. The first room had visible mold in the bathroom. I switched rooms and found mold there too. It took a third room to get one that was finally okay. It felt like we were given the worst rooms first, expecting us not to complain. That same night and into the next day, I started having symptoms. My son has continued to sneeze constantly, have a runny nose and occasional coughs, and sometimes chills. He also feels warm at times, and it’s heartbreaking because he was fine before. I’m considering contacting the health department because this is a health concern, not just a bad stay. They did refund me, but that doesn’t undo putting guests in rooms with visible mold. It felt unsafe and unacceptable, especially after years of supporting and recommending this place. I used to trust it, but I can’t see it the same way now.
