Travelodge Virginia Beach at 28th Street

I’m not after a luxury hotel, but this place felt sketchy. The room smelled odd, and the toilet, bathroom, and pretty much everything else seemed unclean. The blankets were thin, more like sheets, and the curtains wouldn’t shut all the way. Police came by on two of the three nights I was there. There was banging and loud noise until 1 a.m. each night. I wouldn’t recommend it. There are much better hotels within a block that don’t cost much more. The health, safety, and comfort tradeoff isn’t worth it. Damn.

The price was quite a bit lower than the other places, which made me a little uneasy about who we’d be around. Still, my husband and I had a good stay. The pool is small but usable, and the lights at night look pretty cool. The rooms were fine overall, and the cable was decent. I took a star off because the cleaning could have been better. After I shifted the bed to make space, it was clear nobody had cleaned underneath for a while. The microwave was clean inside, though. Bring your own covers: the ones provided are very thin and slippery, and I had to keep pulling mine up off the floor during the night.

I’m fine with a cheap hotel feel, but I’d never stay here again. Mold was growing in the AC vents, and the rooms were hardly cleaned. My feet were black after walking around for a few minutes. I asked for full service because of how filthy it was, and they wouldn’t let me stay. They actually banned me from the property. What a joke.

The location was the only good part of my stay. Service was horrible, and if you’re staying near the beach, I’d go somewhere else. The curtains didn’t quite reach the window sill, so someone could peek into the room. We also didn’t have enough towels. When I called the desk, someone told me to wait 15 minutes and come pick them up myself because the manager wasn’t there to give them to us. Thankfully, we booked just one night. Early in the morning, maintenance knocked and asked to come check the furniture to make sure everyone had new furniture.
