Ranch Motel

We got a reasonably good night's sleep in a creaky old bed, but the cabin looked like a derelict building when we arrived. The online photos gave a much better impression. It reminded me of the kind of cabin grandpappy might have had in the mountains. $40 a night would have been fair, but not what we paid. I can't recommend this place at that price.

We were lucky to get one of the recently remodeled rooms, and it was awesome. The property is no longer called )Ranch Motel and Cabins); its new name is (Olancha RV Park and Motel). That’s the name to use for reservations.

If you expect working WiFi and a TV, dry carpet, clean windows, and motel sheets that are fresh, stay somewhere else. Here, the carpet was wet from leaking plumbing, the windows were opaque with filth, paint was peeling, and the furniture was torn. Some sections of floor covering were missing or held down with gaffer tape. The faucet wouldn’t stop the water when turned one way. What a joke of a dump and ripoff. Did I mention it’s a joke?

The food and drinks were good, and the service was very friendly. Prices for the food were $$$, but I guess that’s life in a National Park. The remodel looked really nice, and the hotel/motel was surprisingly pleasant for Death Valley.
