The Darling Hotel

The location made my first trip to Visalia easy. The Darling Hotel is two blocks from Main Street’s restaurants and shops, and before I arrived the concierge team checked in and offered helpful local suggestions. Parking was convenient, with a free open lot and a gated secure option for an extra fee. My room was comfortable, lovely, and well appointed. The shower was incredible, with strong pressure and a waterfall-style head that felt like standing under a real waterfall. Every staff member I met was welcoming, kind, and thoughtful. For my birthday, they surprised me with a lovely tray of treats and a signed card, which made the stay feel special. Upstairs, The Elderwood Restaurant had great food, a warm atmosphere, and wonderful staff. John the bartender made my birthday drinks, and the evening was memorable. One thing for light sleepers to know: if you’re on the first floor during an event or wedding, there can be some noise. It didn’t bother me. The stay exceeded my expectations, and I can’t wait to return.

I booked this boutique hotel for a few nights because it looked nice and was close to my work. The remodeled bathroom was lovely, and the room had high ceilings, though it was small. But the whole place gave me a creepy, haunted feeling I can’t really explain. As a Christian, I felt like my spirit didn’t belong there. There were also a lot of homeless people around, and the location didn’t feel very nice. I wouldn’t book again because of the eerie atmosphere. I’d rather stay at the Marriott down the street, which is cheaper and more comfortable.

We were very happy with our stay. The staff were friendly, the location was great, and parking was easy at $19 a night. They provided generous coffee and snacks. The hotel felt very bouji, with a nice big room that stayed quiet even though it was on the first floor. I didn’t get to try most of the facilities, but I really liked the place.

The staff were friendly, but I wouldn’t recommend The Darling Suite, and I’d hesitate to book any room here. Water was actively leaking through the walls and baseboards, soaking the bedroom and living area carpets. Our socks and feet got wet whenever we crossed the room. There was visible water damage on the ceiling, including a bulging section, and the exterior window was shattered with what looked like a temporary fix inside. Assistant GM Jessica later called the problem “especially concerning,” but offered only a discount on a future stay. We paid over $300 for a flooded “luxury” suite at a five star hotel, then were asked to come back and spend more for a “fix.” That was disappointing.
