Lava Pond Lodge

The host was wonderful and flexible, including about my dietary needs. The rooms were clean, and the shared spaces felt welcoming and were easy to use. They also gave us detailed information about hikes and other things to do. Being so close to HVNP was the cherry on top.

The Orchid room gave us enough space to work remotely, and the hosts even brought in an extra table and chair. It’s just off the main road, so the setting feels private while still being close to things. We reached the park entrance in about five minutes by car, and could text the hosts for tips on where to see the lava glow. The rooms were clean, and the property is lovely. Each morning came with a generous breakfast spread, including something warm, fruit, pastries, and drinks. Such hospitable hosts. I’d absolutely recommend it.

The breakfast was a lot of fun, and we enjoyed the company. Our room was great, too. Thanks for all the thoughtful attention and for everything!

The drive in had its own atmosphere, with beautiful flowers and plants along the route, and frogs calling in a way that startled me at first. Their strange sound was fascinating, almost like a spaceship had landed nearby. The Royal Orchid room was spacious and clean, with a balcony we regretted not taking time to enjoy. Morning light in there was magical. I loved the welcoming interior and wished we could stay longer. We spent two nights in early September, and the room, service, and location made it the most extraordinary stay we’ve had. Our host was wonderful, made us breakfast, and suggested places to visit before we explored the nearby national park. If we’re in the area again, we’d definitely choose this place.
