They told us we’d get a free minibar and two free drinks each night at the rooftop bar, either a beer of their choosing or a glass of Prosecco. The minibar had one Dr. Pepper, one ginger ale, one apple juice, two waters, a granola bar, Sour Patch candies, M&M’s, chips, and popcorn. None of it was really free, though. It’s all covered by a $25-a-day “Amenity fee,” whether you use anything or not, and they won’t credit it back if you don’t. I was told other hotels are charging this now, which is why they do it too. We had a larger room, but there wasn’t much storage for unpacking or hanging clothes. The AC ran loudly all night even on Auto, and the dehumidifier had to be emptied or the AC didn’t work very well. Two headboard lights wouldn’t turn off until someone from the front desk came up to help. The two women in the lobby were nice at check-in, and shopping at the on-site stores came with a discount. We were there for a wedding and were sorry we didn’t have time to try Red Herring, which we’d heard was good. The shipping-container rooms and unique decor were cool, but the room itself was just okay. We try to support independent hotels, but this is the first and last time we’ll stay here because of the fee.

We had a fun quick Valentine’s getaway from Dallas, with plenty to see and do. Magnolia Market and the Dr Pepper Museum are just around the corner, and shopping downstairs was a treat. We loved the eclectic feel of Hotel Herringbone, with retro personality in every corner, romantic colors, and mood lighting. The on-site restaurant was incredible and felt like stepping into the '80s. We also had a blast at the rooftop bar, which has a fantastic view of the silos. We’ll definitely be back.

Red Herring was wonderful, but we won’t be coming back to the hotel. Our room was noisy at night and felt like a walk-in closet, with barely enough space to stand. There was no chair, closet, or drawer space, so we had to put our things around the sink. There wasn’t any creamer in the room, either. They hosted what was supposed to be a full bar in the room, but that wasn’t what we found. Breakfast was cold cereal.

The rooms are fun, with distinctive decor. Being so close to the railroad tracks was a bit of a nuisance: the room shook some, and the train horns were loud. It only lasted briefly, though. I also called the lobby desk to ask where the ice machine was, but nobody picked up.

We walked to the Silos for shopping and dining, and took an easy walk or hike by the river and bridges. We never needed to get in the car. This was a perfect mini getaway for a mom and daughter. Our double queen room had a cool, vibey feel, cozy beds, and complimentary snacks and drinks. The restaurant was top-notch, and the rooftop bar was a cozy place to watch the sunset, with wonderful service from everyone. Thanks for a great stay. We’ll be back!
