The Northshore Hostel Maui

It was easy to meet people here, and the hostel has a very social feel. The rooms are basic, with clean, comfortable beds, but mine had no lockers or curtains. The bathrooms were reasonably clean most of the time. The location isn’t the best, though there are some cute shops nearby. The bus is straightforward to use, and ride shares aren’t too expensive if you split the fare. Try to get on as many tours as you can. Shoutout to tour guides Xavier and Luke. I’d recommend this as a budget place to stay in Maui.

As a solo traveler, I felt welcome right away and made friends easily. The community here is amazing, and this is the most social hostel I’ve stayed at. They seem to run group trips almost every day, and margarita and karaoke night was a hit. Thanks to Dani and the team for being such kind, thoughtful leaders and making the place fun, social, and clean.

The friendly, respectful staff were proactive, and the other guests made the hostel welcoming for solo travelers. I really liked the decor and enjoyed my stay overall. There were a few frustrating details. At check-in, I noticed a gross stain beside the bed. Staff cleaned it promptly, but it made the room seem not quite ready. Lockers and towel hooks aren’t assigned, so people sometimes used several lockers or took the hooks. One fridge was being maintained, and the other was crowded and messy, with barely any room for food. Better organization for those shared items would make the stay even nicer. I’d still recommend it, especially to solo travelers.

My first hostel stay was at Howzit Hostels, and I was a little nervous. It turned out to be amazing, and the people were so great. Taryn was hilarious, Morgan was so kind and sparkly, and Nick was a vibrant guy with the best curls.
