The Cabins at Kokee

Cabin 10 is a useful base if you want to get out on nearby trails early, and I’d still suggest staying a night or two. Staff clearly put effort into cleaning, but a lot of the interior has worn past its useful life. A few modest fixes would make a big difference, like painting over the refrigerator rust, replacing the tired shower stall, and getting a new bed. We heard the cabins are run by the company that owns the lodge, which was awesome.

The cabin has a hot shower with towels, soap, and shampoo, plus board games. In the kitchen there are outlets, a fridge, microwave, toaster, gas stove, oven, basic pots, and seasonings including salt and pepper. There are plenty of nearby trails if you’re here to hike. It’s a rustic, quiet place right in the middle of Kokee State Park, good for getting away from civilization. There’s no cell reception around here. Kokee Lodge has guest wifi, about a two minute drive away, useful for checking the weather. Download an offline map before you go in case you need it for navigation.

Cabin 9 was lovely and cozy, though clearly it’s seen better days. We slept fine until the chickens got going. The location is the real highlight. Even without central heating, the furnace and insulation did a good job.

The location is great, but I’d rather pitch a tent. Check in and out were easy. The Redwood Cabin, though, had serious cleanliness problems. Both beds had stains that went all the way down to the mattresses, as shown in the photos. The bathrooms badly need repairs and updating, and the listing photos seem to hide how rough they are. We slept on the couch because it was the cleanest place. The quality felt like a $35 a night motel room. What you’re paying for is being close to the trails.
