It was so quiet that I wouldn't have known anyone else was staying there if I hadn't seen them. We biked to Wallace and spent the night at Ryan Hotel. The owners were fantastic, extremely kind and helpful, and made it easy for us to store our bikes securely. The room and historic hotel were great, and the location worked well. Wallace is a fun place to visit, with good places to eat and some nice sights.

A major fire swept through part of downtown in 1933, after which the Ryan Hotel was rebuilt or substantially remodeled in the Art Deco style by Spokane architect G. A. Pehrson. Its decorative brickwork and geometric details still give the building its distinctive look. First built in 1903, it began as a modest two-story brick hotel typical of the period. Today it is recognized as a historic lodging destination, with period architecture, a central downtown location, and a character tied to Wallace's mining-era past.

Everything was a short walk from the hotel, which made it a great base for exploring Wallace and good value for the money. The beds were comfortable and it was quiet, though it's an older hotel, so set your expectations accordingly. We chose a room with AC and were glad we did. If the weather is hot, airflow may not be good in many of the other rooms. A bit better breakfast selection would leave a stronger impression. The Silver Mine tour was very interesting, led by a retired miner.

The hotel is right by a restaurant and cafe and a bookstore, with more places to eat, shops, and bars just a short walk away. When we checked in, the woman at the desk was very helpful and pointed out local restaurants and attractions. It's a lovely old-fashioned hotel in the heart of a cozy mountain town. I'd definitely stay again if I return to Wallace.

Staying at Ryan Hotel felt like stepping back in time. It was nostalgic and comfortable, and we really enjoyed our visit.
