DC International Hostel 1

This was the worst sleep and hostel/motel experience of my life. I've stayed in plenty of budget motels and hostels, especially in the South, and this was worse than any of them. The staff were rude and standoffish when they were around and working. The rooms had no ventilation, and neither of the two rooms I stayed in had windows. I'm not sure how that's legal. In the first room, I shared with a man who was tweaking. He had a flashlight on strobe mode and blared music all night. Eventually I gave in and went to the front desk, where someone finally showed up, and asked to move. The upstairs room didn't have the mini strobe or R&B concert, but I could hear club music from the bar next door. It also had no windows or ventilation. The communal showers were covered in mold and cold. Absolutely horrible.

This is a quiet and peaceful hostel in a good location, with lots of respectful people, but the vibe isn't especially friendly and there are mostly older people. The price is amazing, though still higher than I think it's worth. It's really just a value stay. The rooms are very small and uncomfortable, with no ventilation or direct sunlight. Wi-Fi doesn't reach the kitchen, and it isn't reliable in some rooms either. The bunk beds squeak, and some are broken. Cleanliness is decent, but not the best. There's only one fridge in the kitchen, it's packed, and there aren't many things to cook with.

The mattress was the worst I've ever slept on, and the rooms had no ventilation or shared spaces. They'd also lost my reservation, so even though I arrived fairly late, I had to pay extra to stay. I packed up the next morning and left as soon as I could.

I booked a room at DC International hostel 1 and got a confirmation, but when I arrived the hostel was closed for renovation. Five other guests were in the same situation that night. When we asked what was going on, they said it wasn't their problem and ignored us. It felt like a scam, and nobody was welcoming.
