Residence Inn by Marriott Washington, DC National Mall

The renovated studio suites feel modern and cozy, with a bed, sofa, shower, and kitchenette. I’d stay here again, though as a long-term guest I wanted more clothing storage and a larger closet. Breakfast is good and changes somewhat from day to day. Tracy, the General Manager, is amazing, and the staff are super friendly. The hotel is in the middle of renovations, so this review leaves out the noise and mess. Renovations were reported to finish in March 2026. The gym treadmills are currently broken, as are a few washers, and it’s unclear whether the remodel will replace them. The location is good, a short walk to the Metro and a little way from the National Mall. Safeway is 10-15 minutes away on foot, though there are plenty of delivery services.

The staff were friendly, polite, and genuinely helpful. They almost made me forget how loud the room’s AC and heater were, and how disappointing breakfast was. The unit ran like a jet engine all night, loudly announcing itself instead of quietly regulating the temperature. Breakfast gets a mention mostly for setting expectations low. If you’re on a diet, one look might be enough to kill your appetite.

Tracy was especially kind and considerate, and went out of her way to arrange an early check-in after my flight arrived ahead of schedule. Talking with her felt like chatting with a friend. Every staff member was welcoming, and the whole team made my stay exceptional. My room was quiet and clean, with a beautiful view, and breakfast had lots of great options. This might be my favorite Marriott I’ve stayed at. I’ll absolutely come back next time I’m in DC.

I travel around the country a lot for work and stay in plenty of hotels. This one was excellent, very nice, and the staff were nothing but amazing. I had to edit this post because my original review was for a different Marriott, the one in Connecticut. Ignore the hotel’s response.
