Sonder - Callisto

Our unit had a fully equipped kitchen with a stove, full-size fridge, dishwasher, and utensils, plus an in-unit washer and dryer with detergent pods. There was also a bathroom, queen bed, and sofa bed. The building is across from navy yard. It's a bit far from DC's main attractions, but there's bus service, a Metro stop two blocks away, and Uber at a reasonable price. Once again, sonder doesn't disappoint.

The neighborhood is a strong point, with easy walks to Eastern Market and Navy Yard/Ballpark Metro stations, Barracks Row, Navy Yard spots, and the riverfront. Just be ready for the Navy base trumpets each morning. The hotel itself is noisy, though, with thin walls and floors, so you may hear footsteps overhead and sounds in the halls. There are no amenities besides a small water filling station. My apartment had the laundry and kitchen you'd expect, but it was tiny, with scratched walls and worn furniture. The door lock didn't feel very secure, which worried me. It's fine, just not my favorite Sonder stay and not as memorable as others. Also, Callisto and Sonder Europa are easy to confuse: Europa is more visible from the street corner and has the shiny "Sonder" sign, even though that building is pictured on Callisto's Google Maps page. Luggage storage is over at Europa too.

The apartment was very clean, and with the instructions provided, getting in and out was easy. The location across from the Naval Yard felt about as safe as it could, and there are plenty of food choices. A few things could be better: we had to buy an extra roll of toilet paper, there was no shower gel (good thing we'd brought our own), and a couple of water bottles would be a nice way to start the day. The coffee maker also needs a proper cleaning, since used grounds were left inside.

The rooms were clean and well stocked, and I appreciated the spare towels, linens, and toiletries left in the hallways. Service was friendly and quick. The walls are thin, so you can hear people upstairs walking around and flushing, but the price is great for such a good neighborhood. It's near the nationals stadium and navy yard, and we walked to the Capitol and Mall along the heritage trail. We found parking around the corner both nights. The W Nationals lot, two blocks away, costs $25 a day.
