Fairfield Inn & Suites Waterloo Cedar Falls

There was a deep, musty smell, and the hotel clearly isn’t being cared for, from the parking lot to the bathroom fan. Every one-star review seems accurate. Spend the extra $20-40 and stay in Cedar Falls.

We’re travelling across the U.S., and this Comfort Inn on Waterloo has been the most comfortable and cleanest motel we’ve stayed at. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the bed was a dream. We’ll be here for four nights and will be sorry to leave.

I stayed here late last week. The first room had blood on the sheets, broken cabinets, and drawers that wouldn’t close. They moved us to another room because there was no cleaning staff at night. The replacement had holes in the sheets and a dirty tub. Dogs are allowed, and the pitbull in the room next to mine cried through the night. I complained at the desk because we were genuinely concerned about the dog’s wellbeing, but nothing was done. The crying started again the next night. On the fourth day, the pitbull and a small dog were off leash in the lobby during breakfast. The front desk woman who helped me was very kind. She said I’d need to speak with Dennis, their GM, to request a refund. Once home, I called him. In my experience, Dennis was one of the worst managers I’ve dealt with in customer service. He asked outright how off-leash dogs affected me and defended the hotel’s inability to just change sheets instead of switching our rooms. He didn’t apologize until I pointed out that more than six minutes into the call, he still hadn’t said sorry for the experience. He took no accountability. He said he couldn’t process the refund because we booked through Expedia and I’d need to contact them to contact him. When Expedia approached him about the refund, he refused and said none of what I described had happened.

The staff were really kind and accommodating. Our room had a bit of a musty smell, and with the humid weather, everything inside felt damp.
