The Westport Inn

We booked the Westport Inn because it was supposed to be pet friendly, but the experience was unfriendly to both pets and guests. At check-in we were told our room wouldn’t be ready for two hours. When we came back, they pushed it another hour, until 4 in the afternoon. Once we finally got in and started unpacking, the room smelled like a toilet, not pet waste. Staff apologized, and after another two-hour wait they moved us. Then we found there was no refrigerator. We were told one would cost $25, but as a peace offering they gave us one at no charge. It took 24 hours to arrive, and it didn’t work. We asked for it to be removed and were told someone would take it shortly, but it was still there when we checked out three days later. There was thick dust on the air-conditioning vents, and we never had enough clean towels. There also wasn’t a designated area for walking pets.

I haven’t stayed overnight, but I’ve been here for swim lessons at the pool and for gatherings in a meeting room. The hallways and surrounding interior seemed well kept and fairly crisp. The pool area left me wanting a shower, even though I hadn’t been in the pool. The pool space, bathrooms, and general area could use more cleaning, attention, and updates.

I stayed just one night in a double queen room, and I wasn’t happy with it. It smelled strongly of mold, there were dead bugs in the ceiling light fixtures, and there was mold on the bathroom ceiling. The bedding smelled stale and dusty instead of freshly cleaned. The thermostat didn’t work, but luckily I could set the window AC to 60, which got me through the night by circulating cold, fresh air. I won’t stay there again.

This is the sort of place that turns a room for the night into somewhere you look forward to coming back to after being out all day. There’s a lobby bar and fireplace, plus a surprisingly good restaurant. The friendly service and support were excellent, just what you hope for when “Inn” is in the name. It’s a big step above the usual motel or hotel, and goes beyond the expected three Cs: clean, comfortable, and reasonably priced. A great option for out-of-town guests.
