Hampton Inn By Hilton Wichita-East

Cell service around this area was almost nonexistent, and the hotel Wi-Fi was spotty too. I was on the third floor while they were remodeling, and the paint and glue smell was overwhelming. I told the front desk, was told someone would come right up, and then heard nothing. The section I was staying in had already been remodeled, but the shower doors didn’t line up and were hard to open and close. The ceiling sprinkler cutouts were badly done, with sprinklers hanging below the ceiling and some openings too large, leaving them exposed. The building is clearly old, and the work felt very poor quality. I’ve stayed at plenty of Hampton Inns, and this was easily the worst.

The breakfast area looked recently redone, the food selection was good, and the staff were friendly. The bed was fine, the towels and other things seemed clean, and I didn’t see any bugs. The pool looked nice too, but there were two huge piles of boxes beside it, which made the area feel less relaxing. I’m not sure what was being stored in them, and the humidity there can’t be good for the boxes. They’re in the middle of renovations, so I changed my rating from three stars to four. If the elevator and other problems get fixed, it could be five stars once the work is done. They should do more to keep guest areas tidy, though. There were boxes by the pool and dirt in the stairwell, among other debris. The hotel is okay, but needs updating and a deep clean. Our bathroom door scraped along the floor and was hard to open and shut. The bathtub had several cosmetic problems that made me wonder if there might be bigger issues. As of October 2025, the decor was dark and dated. There was also a raised lump in the hallway carpet that needs stretching or replacing, and it could easily trip someone. The elevator is tiny and slow. If you’re not fussy, it’s probably fine. If you expect the quality you’ve had at other Hilton brand hotels, this one comes up a bit short.

The staff made everything easy, from check-in through checkout, and were friendly and attentive the whole time. My room was comfortable and clean, and the renovation looks beautiful, with a modern feel. I had a great stay at Hampton Inn East Wichita and would happily come back next time I’m in Wichita.

After the property’s response, I’m revising my review to add that not even the Hilton Diamond Desk could reach the on-duty manager or anyone else. I was told at the front desk that my room had no fridge and none were available. The Diamond Desk was the one that suggested I stay somewhere else. Your team completely failed me, and spin won’t change that. I’m a business traveler, not someone here for a weekend. On the day I arrived, I ended up dragging my luggage over to the Marriott at about 9pm after a horrible experience. Management is elsewhere and doesn’t respond. It’s a franchise, and apparently they haven’t equipped every room to Hilton standard. This was the first time in years at a Hilton property that I had no fridge in my room. Worst hotel stay of 2021 by far.
