I called the Acropolis Hotel on a Friday to book a room, then decided a few hours later to cancel. I specifically asked the manager if there would be a cancellation fee and said I was fine with one if there was. He said “OK,” which made it sound like the cancellation was handled. My card hadn’t been charged at that point. After I canceled, though, the charge went through the following Monday. When I called, the manager said I was “out of luck” but promised a credit by mail for a future stay. It never came. My bank looked into it and agreed the charge was made in error. Nothing had been signed, and there was no record of a cancellation policy. I couldn’t find one on the website either, even though the manager said there was one. That lack of transparency probably helped my dispute go in my favor. After reading other negative reviews, it seems to me the property has gone downhill. The management appears more focused on taking as much money as possible than on honest service or keeping the hotel in good shape. I’d strongly recommend staying somewhere else.

This hotel used to be gorgeous, but that was a long time ago. The current owner has let it deteriorate badly. It’s old, dirty, smelly, infested, and doesn’t feel safe. There’s mold in the rooms, the carpets are damp, filthy, and sticky, the AC doesn’t work, and the elevator is filthy and broken. Rain comes through leaky windows and into the outlets. There’s no Wi-Fi, the door locks are broken, some room occupants seem shady, and there’s bird crap in the pool. The list just keeps going. The owner and his wife are horrendous to customers who complain or ask for refunds. There’s a lobby sign offering money off a future stay for a good Google review, so beware the 4s and 5s. If you’re fine with deplorable conditions, bed bugs, filth, moldy disgusting rooms, and ants, this might be for you. Otherwise, stay away.

We paid over $1,000 and had an awful stay. There was no AC, even though they said they were fixing it, and the heat was terrible and felt like a health hazard. The toilet didn’t work, and when we complained, they said, “It’s an old building, you have to get over it.” The elevators were out, then the ice machine stopped working. They called the cops on our room over a problem on the floor above us. The smell was god-awful, and when you turned on the shower, the bath faucet wouldn’t shut off, so the tub filled while you showered. I could keep going. I don’t know how this place is allowed to stay open. I also overheard the front desk tell other customers who were complaining that our room was why the elevators were slow. I don’t see how that makes sense. Absolutely terrible experience. 10/10, do not recommend.

I was nervous before our first family stay in July 2025 because I’d read the terrible reviews, but I found them unfounded. The hotel was lovely, with an amazing spot and view, and the owners were helpful and sweet. Our room was very clean, and the air conditioning worked great. We like extra airflow, so they gave us two nice box fans when we asked. I’m not sure what the complaints about the AC are about. It can only cool so much, and getting a room to 70 when it’s 90 and humid outside seems great to me. There’s a cute little restaurant in the hotel, and the huge pool was well maintained. We enjoyed the pool DJ that weekend, and the elevator worked with no issues. You can take the stairs if you want some exercise. It’s a typical beachfront Jersey Shore hotel, not a top-of-the-line $1,000-a-night place in NYC. The price was reasonable, and with two teenagers, the extra room in the family suite was crucial. My sister liked it enough to book her own room and join us for the last few days. We’ll definitely be back next year. Can’t recommend it enough!

The seawall walkway out front stretches for miles. You can head northwest toward the business and bar district, or walk down to the Boardwalk for shops and entertainment. The hotel is right on the beach, with beautiful sunrises to wake up to, a large pool with a poolside bar, and plenty of guest parking. The front desk staff are helpful, and check-in is easy.
