When we arrived, the front staff were friendly and helped us figure out where to get dinner and settle in. That’s why I give it 2/10. The room was run down for the price, and the location looked nothing like the picture. The surrounding area and hotel in front were nothing but trouble. It wasn’t worth the money or the stay, and I won’t return. After dinner, we met up with friends in the lobby to wind down quietly without bothering the rooms next to us. Someone told us three times that the lobby closed at 10 and we couldn’t stay. It was 10 p.m., not 3 in the morning. The night staff were in sweats and leggings, like my 15-year-old daughter, so I couldn’t take her seriously when she said we weren’t allowed to quietly talk in the common area. I sent my daughter down for extra towels, and she waited at the front desk for 10 minutes with no one there. My husband called from our room, and they answered. If guests are supposed to leave the common area at a certain time, a waiver could explain that, and the staff could be friendly instead of passive and rude.

The staff were all lovely and accommodating. But I had to switch rooms three times because none of the showers had hot water, just lukewarm at best. I was told the plumbing was fixed on the Monday after I arrived. I stayed the whole week for work and never once got a hot shower. Apart from that, it’s a decent place to stay.

It was quiet, and the pool was good. The gym is just big enough for a 20-minute workout, with dumbbells and a bench. After a short session I used the hot tub. Breakfast was good, and there was comfortable spacing in the dining area. I’ll come back.

My reservations were paid in full for check-in on November 22, but they wouldn’t let me check in because my driver’s license showed an address less than 50 miles from the hotel. They don’t rent to locals now. Agent Tia was ignorant and rude. I believe they’re discriminating against people from Scranton and Wilkes-Barre, and that this is illegal discrimination. I’m waiting for a refund. People should know they won’t rent to certain people based on where they live.

I drove three and a half hours and arrived to find I had nowhere to stay because Fairfield by Marriott in Wilkes-Barre Pennsylvania had canceled my reservations without notifying me by email or text. The front desk wasn’t helpful. They just said it was canceled and that a notification had been sent. I never received one, and to this day there’s been no apology for the inconvenience. For that reason, I won’t refer anyone to Fairfield by Marriott in Wilkes-Barre Pennsylvania. Edith K.
