Americas Best Value Inn - Williamsburg/Lightfoot Area

This is a motel, so the accommodations are motel-style, but we’d stay again. We got a parking spot right beside our room, and there was plenty of parking. The pool is beautiful. The room was clean, with crisp white bedding; wiping down the floor molding would make it spotless. The all-white walls and bedding feel a little sterile, but they do show the cleanliness. The front desk staff were so nice, and that kindness goes a long way. Booking direct gets you a better rate than Priceline. The TV is small, towels are sparse, and the outlets are in odd places, but those things weren’t a big deal. The AC, fridge, and microwave all worked great. For the price, it’s a good place to spend the night.

The rooms were clean and smelled great, and the beds were comfortable. I really liked the pool too. It was clean and refreshing after a hot day. The front desk staff were helpful and explained the services they offer. The manager was very sweet and always seemed to want to make you smile. In my book, this motel earns five stars, and I’d recommend it to anyone.

The online pictures gave me a different impression. The outside and rooms felt sketchy, with wires hanging and lying on the floor, cracked walls, writing on the bathroom door, and a broken door lock. There were only thin blankets and no extras in the room. It smelled of mold or mildew, and the office reeked of cigarettes. The “breakfast” was two kinds of sugary cereal, a few bagels, a loaf of bread, and a nearly empty gallon of milk. If we hadn’t been charged a cancellation fee, we would have stayed somewhere cleaner and nicer.

It was a very disappointing stay, and I wouldn’t recommend this place. The pictures showed a fridge and microwave, but neither was in the room. There was no ice bucket either, so I called the front desk. The clerk said he had to look for one because he didn’t know where they were kept. There were no fresh linens from day to day, including washcloths and towels, so I had to collect them from the desk myself. The clerk did find what I needed and got back to me promptly, but he was the only person there, which meant I had to go retrieve everything. I wouldn’t recommend staying here.
