Motel 6 Williamsburg

The big positives were the clean, spacious pool and the low price. We also got the fridge and microwave we'd asked for. The room worked for our trip, but the shower leaked badly, the toilet seat had no lid, and the AC couldn't cool the whole room. The people staying next to us seemed questionable. We were meant to get cleaning service one night, but no one came. They apologized and brought us clean towels afterward.

I liked the pool and having Outback Steakhouse just a two-minute walk away. My room was a decent size and clean enough, and I was glad it didn't smell of smoke. I didn't mind the limit of two soaps for myself, though that could be a problem if two couples had to share. Still, the room was fine for my own needs. Outside was another story. I had to hold my breath walking past people smoking by the doors. A big dog stood outside my door once, making me hesitate to leave, and some neighbors walked their dogs on the grass right outside while others seemed to be homeless. Yellow tape marked the sidewalk under a broken light, which made the walk to the office awkward. The exterior looked iffy enough that I didn't encourage my husband to stay, since I thought he'd take one look and leave. There was no breakfast, just coffee. I get the cost savings, but they could probably buy the small shampoo bottles for under 25c each. The bath mat I'd used to soak up water off the floor turned black. I'd call it a fairly decent book with a raggedy cover, nothing special. I'd give it 2 1/2 stars, so I'm giving the benefit of the doubt.

The bed was comfortable, and the TV was better than the one I have at home, but I'm not sure those would bring me back. The room smelled very musty, and the bathroom door was too big for its frame, so it wouldn't close. I was alone, luckily. For the first two nights, I couldn't get warm water from the sink. When the bed was changed on the second day, the top sheet had a burn hole and a blue stain.

The bed and shower were great, and the water pressure was amazing. The staff were friendly and helped however they could. Lighting in the room was okay, though I would've liked a couch. I also wanted a wall-mounted hair dryer like other hotels or motels have, but I couldn't find one anywhere, if there was one. The outside looked pretty horrible and needs work. They also charged us more than the lower price we'd booked for.
