Super 8 Motel Williamsburg Historic Area

We drove hours to get here and then had to drive back home without a refund. We booked through Expedia, which said this Super 8 was pet friendly, and the hotel website said the same. When we arrived, there was a sign saying otherwise. The man told us changes had to go through them since we booked that way, seemed salty, and said he could’ve helped if we’d booked directly with him. Expedia insisted the hotel allowed pets and said they’d spoken with the on-site manager. When we got out to unload, he met us outside, spoke very unpleasantly, and said no pets at all, not even an ESA. He went upstairs and locked us out of the rooms. While trying to sort it out, I went upstairs to use the bathroom. There were burn marks on the blankets, batteries scattered from the alarm clock, and the bathtub was filthy. I’d never recommend staying here. I’ve been to some nice Super 8s, and this isn’t one.

It’s definitely a budget place. The room looked clean, but didn’t feel clean and had a bad smell, though it wasn’t cigarette smoke. In our smoking room there were burn holes in the blankets, a hole in the wall, rusty fixtures, and a bathroom vent that looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in years.

We booked a room with a king bed, but they didn’t have one for us. The staff were nice in the brief interactions we had, and the location is close to the amusement park. Still, this was probably one of the grossest rooms I’ve stayed in, and it creeped me out. The curtains were cut in half, the shower kept running after it was turned off and was moldy, there was gum on the painting, and the fridge was rusty.

We were grateful to find a room so late in the evening over Labor Day weekend, when a reservation system issue at another hotel left us looking for somewhere in the Williamsburg area. This Super 8 in the Historic Area was near downtown and lots of attractions, and check-in was quick. The room was spacious, the AC worked really well, and the beds were comfortable. TV, microwave and fridge all worked, and there was plenty of storage and a nice desk. Wi-Fi was spotty and not great, but not too bad. It’s an older hotel without much in the way of bells and whistles, and the bathroom looked and felt a little dirty and could use updating. We found small bugs and/or cockroaches in the room and bathroom. There were stains and cigarette burns on the comforter and sheets, and the couch was stained too, though it pulled out into an extra bed and had sheets and blankets ready. It was an average experience at best, but it met our needs for the trip. My expectations weren’t high.
