Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham Williston

I stayed for two weeks and found the room large and clean, with a comfortable bed and kitchenette. The free breakfast was quite good, the staff were friendly, and free laundry was handy. I could adjust the thermostat a lot. The fitness room was spacious, with two TVs, two ellipticals, two treadmills, a bench, and weights. A few things could be better: there was no way to wipe down the fitness equipment, the spa and hot tub were out of service, and the breakfast area door could lock you in because the room key wouldn’t work there. Still, in my experience this was a very good place to stay, better than most Marriotts and Hiltons I’ve tried.

I booked a suite specifically to use the whirlpool because my back was very sore. The front desk clerk said it had been broken for a long time, with no repair date, but neither the Wyndham nor Hawthorne website mentioned it. I should have canceled and gone home. The room was fairly clean, but there was a lot of hair in the bathtub. When I used it instead of the whirlpool, short black hairs came back up the drain, and the tub drain control was broken too. It’s sad to see a large, busy hotel skimp on basic maintenance.

The staff are great, and I like staying here. My accessible room had an open shower, so water got onto the floor, and sometimes the room trash was an issue. I found a place to take it out myself. There’s a locker room washer that does a decent job with oily clothes, plus the regular washer works great. The cookout area is nice, too.

Really good restaurant, top notch rooms, and excellent staff.
