Baechtel Creek Inn

The pool and hot tub were lovely, and the grounds were clean and cared for. Everyone was gracious and friendly, which made the stay feel special. Our plans in town were uncertain, but Laura, Bob and Jan were flexible and helped us along the way. We’d found the Inn At Baechtel Creek through a mix of searching and word of mouth, then arrived at 11 pm after an unexpected need for a place to stay. The owner greeted us at the door with a smile and a warm, familiar welcome. Our room was practical, comfortable, and nicely decorated. I’d recommend staying here in Willits. Say hello to Bob for us!

After driving all day, I was glad they let me check in late. The rooms feel dated, but they have all the amenities. In hot weather, though, the AC won’t let you set the room to a truly cool temperature. After a few hours I just opened the window to cool it down.

I told the pleasant desk clerk that the air conditioner in room 129 was rattling and grinding loudly. She gave me a key to another room, but it didn’t work. On my way back to the office, the owner asked which room I was complaining about. When I explained, he said all machines make noise and wanted to go see, speaking to me in a condescending way. I was taken aback and said I didn’t want the first room. He raised his voice and loudly insisted he was trying to help. That was enough for me. We’d never been treated so rudely at a motel or hotel, so I said we were leaving and wanted a receipt showing the reservation was canceled and we wouldn’t be charged. He argued loudly about that too, saying, “I didn’t come back from war to be treated like THIS!” I asked the desk clerk, who had been nice, if he was the owner, and she said yes. I wish I’d read the other reviews mentioning problems with him first. We won’t come back, and I wouldn’t recommend this place unless you’re a glutton for punishment.

The pool area is a peaceful place to sit among all the trees and plants and hear the birds. It’s quiet and comfortable, and the staff are so delightful. I travel from the Bay Area to Eureka for work twice a month, and after finding this charming hotel, it became my regular stop on the long drive.
