Staybridge Suites - Wilmington Downtown, an IHG Hotel

I stayed nearly three weeks for work, and this was a very good option in the area. The rooms are spacious, the location is excellent, and the beds are comfortable, on the firm side. There’s a nice choice of pillows, lots of drawer and hanger storage, and a steamer in every room. The full kitchenettes were well equipped, with a large fridge that stayed at a good temperature, microwave, kettle, coffee maker, dishes, cutting board, and more. The gym had a good range of cardio and free weights, a bench, a cable machine with attachments, and room to stretch. Laundry is free and available around the clock on the top floor. I used it three times without problems. The washer took about 45 minutes and rinsed everything well; the dryer took 60-70 minutes to dry a week’s worth of laundry. Staff were friendly and helpful, and I believe the front desk is staffed 24/7. Breakfast was excellent, with lots of choice: eggs with or without cheese, turkey and promise or bacon, fresh fruit and vegetables, Greek yogurt, waffles, pastries, bagels and toast, hard-cooked eggs, cereal, and more. There were also different milk options for dietary needs. Elevators need a key card to reach the floors, but the stairwell is open without one. My main complaint was cleaning. The lobby and breakfast area were very clean, but the gym didn’t seem to be swept or vacuumed the whole time I was there. The gym wipes jammed and weren’t fixed for over a week. Room refreshes were available as often as requested, with a weekly clean, but my room was never vacuumed during those weekly cleans and the kitchenette was never wiped down. Even with those issues, it was a great place for a longer Wilmington stay. I was grateful for the helpful staff and would recommend it.

We had a great stay and would happily come back. The staff were friendly and the service was amazing. Breakfast was tasty, with enough variety for our six days. There were plenty of firm pillows, plus complimentary water and cider in the lobby. The bed was comfortable and the water pressure was great. Our only small gripe was that the thermostat stopped at 70 degrees, and it happened to be colder than usual while we were there. Lots of good places to eat and hang out are within walking distance. 10/10 would stay again :)

The room itself was comfortable, though the window was tiny and looked out toward someone’s house. The trouble started when I tried to extend my stay. I’d paid for two nights, then on the third night asked to extend and said I could get a check later because my card was glitching while I was traveling abroad. They approved it. When I came back with cash, I was told the property was cashless. Still trying to honor my promise, I went to several ATMs late at night and eventually got a card I could load money onto. I paid for that night and went to bed, expecting to extend again the next day while visiting the nearby hospital. But when I asked, they said I couldn’t extend, even though there seemed to be about 20 rooms available and I’m an IHG member. The kind receptionist checked with her manager and explained the hospital situation, but the answer was still no. I was left confused and had to find somewhere else to stay when I should have been focused on helping my loved one. I was able to use a card, but management’s behavior left me distraught. I also still haven’t received my $150 incidental deposit back after a few days. When I called, they said it might take 7-10 business days. That’s too long, and they need a better system. I’ve received other refunds faster than this deposit.

We stayed here over the holidays to be near family, and the value was incredible compared with the many hotels I use for work and travel. The staff were the most polite and helpful, and it was a pleasure having them accommodate us so well. Breakfast was nice, and we’ll definitely choose this hotel again next time we visit.
