BEWARE OF THE NORWAY We stayed at the Norway Chalet at Wilderness Inn from February 19, 2026 through February 22, 2026, after booking through VRBO. The chalet wasn't ready at the stated check-in time, so we had to wait about 30 minutes. Once inside, we found the property didn't match the listing photos or advertised condition, especially the extremely dirty, unsanitary bathroom. The exterior door wouldn't lock from inside or secure with the provided key, which felt like a serious safety issue. We told the owner about both problems, but no fix or temporary solution was provided for the door. After we reported the bathroom, a cleaner arrived without warning while we were there. We declined the cleaning then because we and our dog were inside and strong-smelling chemicals would be used. No other solution was offered. The owner later offered a complimentary night on a future stay, but we declined because our concerns were the condition and safety problems during the stay we had paid for. We've requested a full refund several times by text and still haven't received a response. VRBO safety guidelines say exterior doors should lock securely, preferably with a deadbolt.

I've been going there for years, and the cabins are very nice, right next to Whiteface Mountain. On our last visit, I got home after a fun weekend and realized I'd left my jacket hanging on the wall hanger behind the front door. I called the owner that evening, and as soon as I told him which cabin we'd stayed in, he knew I'd left it there. He said he'd mail it the next day and wouldn't let me pay for shipping. My jacket was back a few days later. Great guy, great place!

DO NOT RENT THE NORWAY My husband and I booked the chalet for three nights, but the bathroom was so disgusting we didn't even shower. The exterior door wouldn't lock either. The owner responded by sending a cleaner without warning. We were there with our dog, and cleaning would have involved chemicals, so we declined. I asked for a refund, but the owner only offered a free night at their place in the future. No thank you.

The cabins are clean and comfortable, and the staff are great. I love how cozy they feel beneath the tall pines, and it's wonderful that pets are welcome without costing a fortune. We've stayed here multiple times whenever we come to Lake Placid. Not sure why I never reviewed this gem before, but it deserves every star. Thanks for another visit to look forward to this coming October! 🌲❤️🌲

Richard was so friendly and told us to put our bags down and settle in before taking our details or payment. We needed somewhere for the night and it was already dark when we arrived. The cabin was spotless and very cozy, with good Wi-Fi, plenty of hot water, and great amenities. I'd definitely stay again!
