Holiday Inn Express Winona North

The staff were nice, and the sheets and towels looked clean, but the motel didn't meet the quality I expect from a Holiday Inn. Wear showed in our room and around the building. The bathroom door was beat up, the shower curtain ragged, and the USB port wouldn't charge our phones. The mattress was very hard, unlike the pillow tops at many better motels, and the one-ply toilet paper was cheap and rough. Either remove the Holiday Inn name and lower the price, or remodel.

The hotel itself was nice, with clean rooms and a decent breakfast, but the service from the desk clerk on March 25th let us down. We checked in around 5 PM and went out to get dinner. When we came back, a “happy hour” with snacks and drinks was just ending. The wings were gone and only a few drinks remained. I told the clerk the next morning that we were disappointed nobody mentioned it at check-in. It was the same person, and she said, “He does this sometimes and I don't know when.” Apparently some guy shows up in the lobby now and then, maybe once or four times a week, with chicken wings, soft drinks, bud light in an ice tub, and other treats. If we'd known and asked, perhaps it would've reminded the clerk. She should have said she was sorry and had been distracted, rather than giving that explanation.

I come here once a year for one night, but since 2025 it has needed repairs that still haven't happened. The elevator shoe molding and room doors are scuffed, wall tiles are discolored, and parts of the floor covering are missing. My bathroom sink had no hot water, the mirror was peeling along the bottom, and the bathroom fixtures need replacing. The room was dusty, and when I asked about the two kinds of in-room K-cups, the front desk employee seemed apathetic. At these exorbitant room prices, I expect better. I'll stay somewhere else from now on.

The service was phenomenal from check-in through checkout, a 10/10. The room was clean and well stocked, with great pillows and delicious breakfast, and housekeeping caused no problems. Some things were rough: the shower pressure was terrible, though the water got hot and stayed hot; the beds were a bit too hard; and the bathroom floor had cracked, wobbly tiles. The elevator made me nervous, but there are stairs on both sides of the building. The pool looked really clean and inviting, though it was too cold at the time. Holiday Inn sets high expectations, and the room could have been better, but it could've been worse. Given the location, you have to allow for some disappointment, since it's Winona, Mississippi. A bit of care and updating would go a long way, but we still had a fairly positive stay.
