Hampton Inn & Suites Winston-Salem Downtown

This clean, well-run hotel met what I’d expect for its class, and I’d stay again. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. It’s centrally located, with lots of restaurants and cafes within walking distance. Parking is valet only at $22 per night, plus tip, though the nearby public garage is cheaper. The front desk can tell you about those alternatives, but you have to ask specifically.

My son booked this for me over Thanksgiving, my first time at this hotel in Winston Salem, NC. The place was very clean, the staff welcoming, breakfast included, and my room was beautiful with a nice view. They also have a pool, which would be great for a summer visit, and lots of restaurants across from the hotel in downtown Winston Salem. They’d just put up the Christmas tree when Nicholas Dritschio offered to take my picture in front of it. The photos came out beautifully, and that made the stay extra special. The rooms were clean and the room itself was great. Breakfast was simple but good. Still, we were disappointed with the service. We were due to check in at 3 p.m., but a Christmas parade closed every street leading to the hotel, leaving us waiting outside until 8 p.m. Our booking was non-refundable, and all we were told was that we could check in after the parade. The stay could have been much better if the service had been more considerate.

It’s a great hotel in a great location, and one of the cleanest places I’ve stayed. I can usually find something wrong, but couldn’t here. Breakfast was good, and the Benton Convention Center is down the street. One tip: avoid room 104. They start preparing breakfast at 4 a.m., and you’ll hear lots of banging, clicks, and bells.
