Virginian Resort

I was mainly looking for a bed, and despite its shortcomings this place was usable for basic daily needs. It wasn't the worst stay I've had, but the reviews seem a star or two too generous. Maybe the small cabins or other eight-unit buildings are better; our eight-unit building was rough, and it looks like little has been put back into upkeep. I wasn't expecting Sun Mountain resort, but still. The location near the river was good, the lobby has potential if it's open, and the place was relatively clean. The baseboard heat got toasty, there was a microwave, the average fridge worked slowly and hadn't been defrosted in a long while, and the beds were decent. Maintenance and upgrades are overdue. Cold air came in through a gap under the door, the bathroom fan was useless given the stains on the wood walls, and the shower/tub enclosure looked like a hack job. The AC installation looked rough too, and the deck was in poor shape. The grounds could use care, though it was winter. The TV was small and the walls thin, so you'll hear things you'd rather not hear, especially in a ground-floor unit. The welcome garbage can was overflowing, the toilet might need plunging, and the internet was painfully slow. I can put up with it, but it may not be your cup of tea.

It's a good place to stay all around, with detached cabins and single-story buildings as well as two-story ones. If you can choose a floor in a two-story building, consider going upstairs. The noise from above us sounded like a stable of Clydesdale horses. If you like sleeping in but the people overhead get up at 5am, you'll be awake too.

We had a top-floor room with high ceilings, an effective AC, and a nice little balcony. The rooms are clean and delightfully unique. Our room type had no windows apart from the balcony, but that didn't bother us. The old floor creaks, so I'll ask for a top-floor room again next time. The beds sit well away from the adjoining walls, which helps cut down on talking and snoring sounds.

A really cozy, quiet spot with comfortable, nice cabins. The staff were friendly and helped with our questions. I'll definitely stay here again next time I'm in the area.
