Herman the cat made the holiday stay especially memorable. He greeted us and even kept us company while we looked at the stars, and he’s such a sweet cat. We also loved the mountain view and how peaceful it was at Barewood Inn and Suites. Our room was cozy, clean, and comfortable, with coffee stocked each day. Check-in was quick, and Donna kindly gave us charcoal to use the grill by the picnic table. We’re looking forward to coming back.

A quiet, easy place to stay in the Kern River Valley, especially if you want to get to the lake without the noise and bustle. The staff were friendly and truly helpful. Inside, everything felt welcoming instead of generic, from the porch chairs to the fridge and microwave. The room was spotless and comfortable, and after a long day of travel the bed was great.

I was stranded after my car broke down, and they said they had a room available when I called. I walked there in the rain on Christmas Day, arriving around 8:30 even though they said they closed at nine. Nobody answered the phone or opened the door, despite my ringing the bell about 20 times. This place clearly wasn’t interested in renting me a room.

I stayed for several weeks and felt safe leaving my car in the parking area. The bed was veryyy comfortable, and the room had a fridge/freezer, coffee, AC, and ice outside. The host was super nice. If you can’t reach her by phone, leave a voicemail and she’ll call back. The other Airbnbs in the area seemed extremely questionable, so I was glad I stayed here.

We loved the whirlpool tub, and the room had plenty of space. The lake view was nice, too. The front desk staff were friendly and made us feel welcome. It’s a clean, cute, affordable option if you’re staying in the area, and I’d definitely recommend it.
