Travelodge by Wyndham Wytheville

We found roaches in the room we reserved in early February, so I took a sample to the front desk and said we couldn’t stay. The desk employee said he would cancel the room and refund us, but the money never came back. When I complained, the manager said bugs were normal and came into the building in cold weather, which didn’t make the situation acceptable. We still never got a refund, even after escalating to Wyndham. The rooms are in bad shape, and the ancient window heaters don’t work well enough. Nothing good about this place. Stay away.

The mountain views are priceless, and checkout online was easy. We’re Canadian Snowbirds and would stay here again on our road trips. It’s a great budget stop: the staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and excellent, while our huge room felt safe, clean, and comfortable. The beds were comfy, the shower hot and powerful, and the night was quiet. I also liked having a TV channel guide in the room. A small touch, but really convenient. Breakfast was well beyond continental. The coffee was great, and there was fruit, yogurt, toast, French toast for the toaster, hard boiled eggs, biscuits and gravy, bagels, cream cheese, muffins, danish, juice, hot and cold cereal, jams, peanut butter, and more. I enjoyed the pancake maker and the tasty pancakes, and as a diabetic I appreciated the sugar free syrup.

The dog area was spacious and lovely, with a beautiful mountain view, and there were trash bins all over for convenience. Big sliding glass doors made it easy to take the dogs out without going through the halls. The halls smelled clean even with the carpet and pet friendly setup. Rooms were clean and easy to reach, and we could park right in front to keep an eye on the car. There’s a cat on the property, so drive carefully and watch out if your dog might pull unexpectedly. There was cat food by the lobby too, so be careful with dogs that vacuum up food, lol. Breakfast was great. I had oatmeal and juice, while my father had biscuits, hard boiled eggs, and coffee. The lobby is very cute.

I stayed about a week, and housekeeping took three days to come to the room, then refused to take the trash. I ended up removing it myself. They never made the bed or changed the sheets either. The already scarce amenities were outdated and sub par when they worked at all. The layout is inconvenient, bathroom fixtures were loose or poorly maintained and clogged, and bathroom supplies weren’t kept stocked. Cable barely worked and wifi was spotty at best. I wouldn’t recommend staying longer than a quick sleep, much less an extended stay. If hotels across the highway are booked, just tough it out for another ten minutes in any direction.
