Baymont by Wyndham Yreka

I’ll come back if I’m passing through this area again. The room was warm, clean, and quiet, with plenty of nice towels, a great shower, and really comfortable beds and bedding. The staff were cordial, too.

The breakfast was awful: no hot food, just unappealing packaged items, watery apple juice, and coffee that tasted bad. The pool was closed, even though that was the reason we picked this hotel. The gym had exactly three dumbbells, and we found blood on the sheets and an earplug on the floor. The back door didn’t work either. My six-year-old made a long list of everything wrong, and this place was memorable as the worst hotel. I’m usually easygoing about hotels, but this one was almost comically bad. On our way back we stayed at the Holiday Inn, which was way better.

Check-in and checkout were quick, and the service was good. My room was fine for the one night I was there, though the rooms are clean and clearly dated, so they’re due for an update. They could also use more outlets at the desk and bedside tables.

My main reason for giving this two stars is the $175 hold for incidentals, which is a lot more than the room rate. Why should everyone have to cover for people who cause damage? Otherwise, I’d have given it three. The rooms were okay and clean, but nothing special. The gym is tiny and smells bad. Breakfast is basic, mostly ultra-processed food apart from a few apples.
