Madlen handled everything while Diego, the owner, was away: check-in, activities, and cooking. She's talented at all of it, and so kind and easy to like. The food was delicious, and the calm surroundings, animals, and untouched hills made our stay special. We spent two nights at El Balcon during a two-week drive around Uruguay, and it was one of the highlights. The estancia feels tucked away in nature, though civilization is only a short drive away. Benz the dog, Julia the sheep, Escobar the pig, and a couple of friendly cats greeted us, while horses grazed by the driveway. Green parrots chatter away in the nearby palms. There's a cement-lined pool for cooling off after a midday hike, and the hills above the property are lovely for looking out over the valley and watching the sunset. If you're after fancy pampering and staff fussing over you, this may not suit you. But if you enjoy animals, nature, serene surroundings, and good food, you'll likely love it. And take the chance to ride with Alfonso, Diego's son. He's a competitive rider and a true Gaucho.

The family-style meals happen at set times, so meeting people over lively conversation feels easy, almost inevitable. The food is beautiful, and there's plenty of wildlife around. The estancia has lots to do, plus room to relax and reflect, with comfortable furnishings and strong wifi. Fireflies at night are pure magic. They can pick you up and drop you off at the Mariscala bus station. Payment can be difficult, so use REDPAGOS.

We took a two-day motorcycle trip through the countryside to Punta Del Este, mostly on dirt roads, and got to see the country's raw beauty. There are plenty of activities listed on the property's site, and the food is delicious. Diego is an amazing guide and owner, and his staff make sure you have a great time. If you're interested, he'll share thoughtful stories and perspectives about this beautiful country. I made a buddy for life.

We went on a rainy day, so we couldn't experience the whole place, though honestly, thank God we did. Another guest kept us company with conversation that evening. The owner is a nice guy, and the place is nice, don't get me wrong. Just know that everything you get will be charged, and he doesn't take credit cards, so bring a lot of cash. I mean a lot. 🤣 😂

The cutest animals are the cherry on top of this place. It has a special vibe, a beautiful location, and very cozy rooms, with plenty of activities, delicious food, and great hosts. It went beyond all my expectations. 12/10
