Alvear Hotel

It’s a very good choice near old town and the price is quite reasonable. The room was really nice, with a comfortable bed, great TV, fridge, and AC. Breakfast was nice too, and the staff were very helpful.

The employees were marvelous, polite, and helpful, and the location right in the middle of the old town is excellent. It’s a nice place to stay for the cost, with very good cleaning, okay room space and amenities, and an okay breakfast. The WC is a bit small, but nothing I’d complain about. The shower felt a little unusual, though maybe I’m just not used to it. Parking is available 24 hours a day about 100 meters away on a side street. It’s a little awkward to find somewhere on the hotel street to stop for check-in before moving the car. If you’re leaving town early, make sure the receptionist calls the parking attendant to wake them. I went there and had to return to the hotel for help before I could get my vehicle.

The central location was handy, though the street itself was run down. The bed was comfortable, but I could hear people clearly through the next room’s wall. The shower had only half a door, so water went everywhere. Reception wasn’t friendly. The breakfast buffet had plenty to choose from, but the coffee was terrible. All in all, I didn’t think it was good value for my money.

I went by the hotel and saw a tiny building with just two parking spots out front. With the carnival crowds that day, I was glad I hadn't chosen it. Before that, the manager tried charging my account three times before I arrived, then canceled my app-booked guaranteed reservation. Maybe the money mattered more than waiting for us. Things worked out for the best: I booked Days Inn Montevideo instead and got wonderful service.
