Hotel Ciudadano Suites

The rooms and bathrooms were fine, but breakfast was a letdown. Some of the food seemed to be from the day before, or even weeks earlier. At the entrance there are two steps and a little ramp that's suspended over an air shaft, so it doesn't really function like a ramp; you can end up bumping into the door. There's also a smart TV, but you only get the cable remote, so you're stuck watching cable.

The restaurant downstairs serves wholesome meals at reasonable prices, and the place itself is clean, modern, friendly, and well equipped. It's convenient for shopping and both local and international buses. I'd choose a room higher up, away from the bus station side; with the windows shut, the noise isn't too bad. Great value if you can do without room service.

We got a really bad first impression of Uruguay here, as this was our first stop. The hotel was dirty and seemed in need of renovation, and the receptionist was rude and no help at all. Terrible customer service, I wouldn't recommend it to foreigners.

We paid less than $50 a night and got a comfortable, clean hotel in a good spot, with nice beds and even a small kitchenette with a microwave and kettle. Bus stops and taxis are close, and Cordón and Parque Rodó are about 10 minutes away. We skipped breakfast since it's generally not a big thing in Uruguay. I'd definitely stay again.
