Hotel Europa

At around midnight I asked for a small plastic cup of hot water to make instant coffee. The staff brought me a ceramic teapot full of hot water, on a silver tray with a spoon, sugar, and napkins. Great service. Breakfast was filling too. I toasted ham, salami, and cheese in the sandwich press, then went back for a half sandwich. They also had tomatoes and lettuce, assorted premade mini sandwiches on rolls, sweets, and kiddie breakfast cereals.

The rooms were clean, and the service was nice. The staff were really friendly and helpful, but I did find bugs on the main dining room floor. Sorry, that's not acceptable for a hotel.

We lost half a day of our two-day trip waiting for another room. At 7 AM we asked to move because our room was beside the lift and the noise made sleep impossible. The receptionist said it would be sorted by 10, but by noon we still had no room. She was rude and condescending, and didn't communicate properly. The hotel was very clean and in a good location, but that situation was awful.

The room was tiny, the sheets weren't clean, and the bathroom was dirty and smelly. We had to ask room service to replace the shower curtain, which was in pretty bad shape. The building is old, with very small elevators that hold at most three people. Breakfast is included, but there's no eggs or hot food, just pastries, ham, cheese, and coffee. The breakfast staff were quite controlling. They wouldn't let guests take luggage into the area or carry glassware to the lobby. I asked Alejandra why we couldn't take a cup of coffee, and it seemed previous customers had taken things with them, as if stealing. It's cheap and well located in downtown Montevideo, which may suit people who need to be right in the center.
