Ukelele Hostel

The rooms and shared areas were kept clean, and reception was open 24 hours. There was a pool, piano, and guitar. It stayed pretty quiet at night, and the staff alone made the stay worthwhile. Amanda and Guadalupe were helpful and spoke several languages.

The mattress was a little thin, but that was my only small gripe. This is a really cool hostel in a beautiful old house, close to Montevideo Uraguay’s main attractions. It even has its own pool and Milton, the cool hostel cat. Still a five-star stay for me.

At least the beds were decent, and there was a pool, though it was dirty. Otherwise, things were broken and there were hardly any outlets. They had a cat that wasn’t mentioned on the website, and it went into the rooms, which was a problem for me as someone with allergies. The WiFi kept cutting in and out. After using it for 24 hours, you had to make an account on their website to keep accessing it. Some days the breakfast ran out before the advertised serving hours were over.

The place felt run down, and the hosts weren’t very welcoming. I felt like I was intruding in the space of the roughly six residents. The mattresses were too thin, the toilet seat wasn’t attached, and the shower light didn’t work. It’s in a dodgy area, too. I won’t be coming back.
