Hotel Alcázar

The location was prime, but the room we got faced the street and had no bars on the windows, only a louvered screen that made it very dark when closed. There was a really bad smell, and breakfast was very poor. We stayed quite a while ago, and today I’m reading the same reviews.

We were there for three days, and there was no hot water in the rooms because of a boiler problem...

The portions were generous and the waiter was attentive, but both the pasta and meat were very poor quality. The ravioli weren’t homemade and smelled rancid, the grill portion was small, the roast was mostly bone, and the chorizo was a tough piece of meat with oregano. We told the waiter, but he ignored the complaint and brought us a bottle of Salus orange soda instead. They also don’t have a card reader and only take cash.

The location is the only good thing, and the staff are friendly. From the reviews, though, they don’t seem to care, and that doesn’t make up for how bad the place is. There was no proper hot water. I complained every day, but it was lukewarm at best. I had to make the bed myself each day, and ask for towel changes and toilet paper. The towels were torn or stained, and getting replacements meant waiting. It seemed like they only had enough towels for the number of rooms. Breakfast was acceptable, but the hygiene was appalling. I brought a spray bottle of alcohol to clean the dishes: supposedly clean plates had mayonnaise on them, cups had sugar residue, and the cutlery was in a deplorable state. If you come down late for breakfast, don’t expect a clean table. I don’t understand why wiping it down is so hard. It’s also common to find nobody at reception, a small thing compared with the rest, but worth knowing. I saw very good reviews on Facebook, and can only assume the people posting them are friends. Save yourself the trouble. They don’t care about reviews. Better hygiene alone would make a huge difference and wouldn’t cost the establishment anything. You can find better places for less money on Booking.com, and there’s a reason these aren’t listed there.
