Getting to the old town sights on foot takes about 15-30 minutes, which is handy. The dorm on the ground floor, though, was close to unlivable. The toilet looked filthy and neglected, and even closing and locking its door took a lot of effort. The room sits beside the common area, where people smoke and talk loudly late at night. With the ventilation so poor, it got stuffy even with the windows open, and between the noise and smoke I just couldn't fall asleep.

The beds were clean, and they supplied almost everything, though there was no hair dryer. The shower wasn't working properly either. Everything else was good. They also keep parrots in cages, and I wondered if the theme was about promoting greenery. But seeing the guns and forts made me question that.

The hostel is a real bargain, with a well-equipped kitchen that has everything you need. It's also very close to the Arc of Bukhara, and the staff are friendly and cooperative.

This was my favorite stay in Central Asia. The kitchen was great, the rooms and property were kept in very good shape, and the location was excellent. The staff were wonderful too, and the prices were good.
