The homemade Pulav was a lovely surprise, and the breakfast had homemade jams, butter and bread, with tea always available. The owner and his wife, along with the staff, made me feel genuinely welcome in Khiva. On a trip to a quiet lake somewhere on the way to Kyzyl Kala, we enjoyed a delicious local fish lunch; the owner kindly covered the drinks and tickets too. This was my first, short visit to Khiva, and Anor Qal'a became a home away from home. The rooms were comfortable, with a nice mix of tradition and comfort. The staff were more than polite and cooperative: they helped me get to meetings, find less-known places, and even drove me beyond the city to the ancient Ayaz Kala, Toprak Kala, and Kyzyl Kala, which date from between the 5th century BC and 4th century AD. Anor Qal'a is within walking distance of the old Khiva historical sites and the city center. Nurullaboy's charming little palace is only 300 meters away. I wholeheartedly recommend it as a base for exploring, and for the warmth of Khivan hospitality.

The building wasn't there as a hotel, just a frame under construction. When we called, they sent us to another hotel because Anor Qal'a was being built.

I had a really good stay here. It's an excellent hotel, and I'm grateful for everything!

We booked two nights but left after just one because the room was impossible to use. There was no cold water. Staff tried to fix it but couldn't, and said the whole hotel had the same issue, though apparently nobody else had complained. I was hurt by hot water in the shower. Room 216 was beside the kitchen or office, and there was extremely loud noise, shouting, and metal clanging until 3:00am, maybe dishwashing. Staff were also running around and shouting past midnight, with no respect for guests, so we couldn't sleep. The walls are paper thin, and you can hear every other room. There was no safe, the door didn't feel secure, and you could slide a hand underneath it. Corridor light shone into the room at night, and there were insects in the bathroom. Breakfast was very basic and didn't even include milk. This felt like a two-star hostel, not a hotel, and wasn't as advertised.
