Caravan Serail Hotel

The hosts are lovely and friendly, the location is great, and the lobby looks nice. But a good stay depends on the whole experience, and the hotel needs real work and investment to get there, beyond cosmetic fixes. The WiFi was advertised on the signage as free, but it didn't work. They said they'd fix it and didn't. I used up all my data and had to go to the lobby at 4am to get an emergency eSIM. The shower was ridiculously tiny, and the shower head sat so high that only someone 1.8m or taller could shower properly. The hot water swung between cold and scalding. A dripping sound above my room woke me at 4am and continued for three hours, like someone knocking. My room also had no toilet tissue, so I had to ask for some. Good luck, I hope the owners are willing to properly fix the place up.

From this quiet location, the major iconic sites of Samarkand are within walking distance. There are grocery, sundry, and pastry shops nearby, along with budget places serving local food. The street out front is a bit narrow and busy, with blind spots, so be careful.

The staff were very friendly and went out of their way to make us comfortable. Our room was quiet, with a large, comfortable bed, a working shower, and efficient air conditioning. They also kindly stored our bags on departure day. The hotel is beautifully designed and feels like staying in a Persian house on the Silk Road. Breakfast was very good, though it's best to go early for the full selection. Highly recommended!

A quiet, cozy, new, and clean place with Uzbekistan style. I liked the wooden decor, and the small bathroom was fine. It's in the center, though a short walk from Registan. Watch for the sign on the street, as the entrance is a little hidden. Breakfast starts at 8AM. I'd recommend it for solo travelers.
