Some first-floor rooms are being renovated, and the paint smell is so strong it makes it hard to breathe and gives you a real headache. There’s no bathroom on the second floor, and all guests share three bathrooms right by the gate.

This is a clean guest house that’s worth the money, with a very helpful host. It’s close enough to walk to Registan. The house is traditional and sits in a traditional mahalla, so it may not suit you if you expect a regular hotel. Our room had shower gel but no shampoo, and there was no climate control. That could be a problem in summer, though it’s very warm in winter. If you rent a car, watch out for the rough roads in the mahalla. I’d recommend it to budget travelers.
