The staff were friendly and tried to help, but the hotel’s quality was a disaster. The room looked nicely decorated and the bed was fine, yet the toilet and shower were broken, the balcony door wouldn’t shut properly, and there was no hot water in the morning, at least at the sink. Noise carried badly between rooms, and sounds and smells drifted in from the corridor. We also got strange instructions about visas and had to pay for the room in advance. I’d only stay here if everywhere else were full and you’re okay with being about a 15-minute taxi ride from the airport.

I DON’T RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL TO ANYONE. After flying in from the USA for my first visit to Tashkent in 15 years, I had a very bad experience with the staff. The front desk seemed not to know what they were doing, and the breakfast was awful. They kept asking me for my room key so they could open other rooms, which meant I couldn’t rest properly after long flights. They also asked visa questions. They held my passport overnight and didn’t tell me until I asked where it was. This place doesn’t deserve the name New York Tashkent Hotel. It feels more like a village hostel, with no respect or customer service. I’d give it zero stars if I could. I won’t ever visit again, and I advise tourists not to reserve here. They should change the hotel’s name.

The reception staff were unprofessional and impolite. They asked for extra money when we arrived to check in at 1:00 a.m. The booking said breakfast was included, but the man there told us they didn’t offer it. This is the worst hotel I’ve stayed at, and I don’t think it represents the city. They should change the management.

I’ve run a travel agency for 18 years, and I’ve never had an experience like this. I was embarrassed and felt awful for my guests. After a stressful hour, I got back the 400,000 UZS I’d paid in cash, then had to add my own money to find them another hotel. That hour felt like a hundred years of anxiety and humiliation. The booking was for one night, August 9 to 10, through Agoda. I’d been messaging the hotel on Telegram for two weeks and had sent the guests’ passport copies and other details. On the 9th, I went in, paid by card, and asked for keys so they could check in right away. I explained that I’d already sent the passport copies. The staff member said she knew nothing about the messages, told me not to worry, and said she’d hold the room, but that I should come back at dawn on the 10th with the guests’ original passports. Agoda showed checkout at 2:00 p.m., while the front desk said 11:00 a.m. Things seemed suspicious, but I trusted her, confirmed the check-in and checkout times again, and left with my payment receipt. At dawn, the night clerk, Umida, first said there was no reservation. I showed her the Agoda confirmation and receipt, but she told me in front of the guests to wait three hours for the room. I pleaded for 30 minutes, explaining I’d paid and confirmed the booking, but it didn’t help. I recorded the whole incident. Umida kept saying she hadn’t received the payment herself, hadn’t been working the day before, and that I shouldn’t raise my voice because it wasn’t her responsibility. The female staff kept saying, “It’s not my fault, don’t blame me.” Is that professional? One even said, “I’m just an employee here, so the hotel’s reputation has nothing to do with me.” I don’t believe this place deserves a star or should be called a hotel. I believe the owner may be a foreigner, possibly Indian. Close it immediately before more visitors become victims. This is a disgrace to people visiting Uzbekistan.

I left feeling tricked and disappointed. When I checked out, they wouldn’t give me the proper registration document that every hotel in Uzbekistan must provide. Instead, they handed me what I felt was a fake invoice and claimed it was the registration. I booked Hotel New York Tashkent through Booking.com, but on arrival the place looked completely different from the listing, and it wasn’t even called “Hotel New York.” The name on Booking.com seemed fake. This isn’t acceptable when travelers rely on the site for verified listings. I strongly warn others against booking here and hope Booking.com investigates and removes the listing.
