Tropical Hideaway

The infinity pool and terrace are such a relaxing way to take in Bequia. We spent a week in the amazing Penthouse Suite, with plenty of space, comfort, great views, and excellent facilities. Breakfast was included and was wonderful. Martin and Julie were fantastic hosts, and the onsite shop had everything we wanted, especially Martin’s rum punch and the delicious frozen dinners cooked there. Five stars really don’t do this place justice. Highly recommended.

The owners greeted us with tropical drinks and freshly baked bread, and their well-stocked pantry had all sorts of food and drinks, including tasty homemade frozen meals for a reasonable fee. They’ve thought of every detail, and the property has a real “spare no expense” feel. Guest rooms are spaced apart, so there’s lots of privacy. I arrived after dark and couldn’t really tell what the place was like, then woke up to stunning views and a beautiful property and island. My friend and I stayed in the pool house and were very comfortable. It’s surprisingly spacious, with an open layout and a chef’s kitchen, much more like a luxury pool house than I expected. The property and island are exceptional. I can’t wait to return, and next time I’ll stay longer.

As a solo traveler, I was especially glad that a 5-7 day booking came with a transfer from the ferry or plane and enough food to get started. Martin and Julie’s beautiful property is in a location that’s hard to beat. The infinity pool is amazing, and having a grocery store onsite was so convenient. The walk down to the beach is quick, though the uphill walk takes longer. A friendly taxi is just a phone call away. Everyone at Tropical Hideaway is welcoming and happy to point you to the best spots on the island. Now I need to come back with friends!

After eight days spent floating in the pool with a beer or a glass of Whispering Angel, we really didn’t want to leave. We’d read the reviews before our honeymoon and wondered if Tropical Hideaway could possibly be that good. It is. I’d give it six stars if I could. Our Penthouse was spotlessly clean and tidy, and a useful welcome pack was waiting for us. Cooking outside with that view never felt like a chore. We only went out twice because we loved it there: once for the beaches and town, where we had a nice lunch at Jack's Bar, and once for a day trip to Mustique on the 'Gusto' trimaran, which I recommend. Martin and Julie had fascinating lives before they dreamed up Tropical Hideaway, built halfway up a hill on a little-known tropical island. There’s a book in each room chronicling the whole project from start to finish, and reading it sounds exhausting enough without having lived through it. We continued our honeymoon at the Sandy Lane in Barbados, one of the best hotels in the world and arguably the best in the Caribbean. It’s a completely different experience, so the two places aren’t really comparable, but we honestly preferred our time on Bequia. We’ll be back in a heartbeat. Thank you, Martin and Julie.
