The suites in the beachfront building are huge, comfortable, and have what you need, especially for the price. We were about 15 minutes from the airport, right by the sea, which is hard to beat. The restaurant is basic, and so is the food, but it was fine. The hotel has a second building at the back; I can’t speak from experience, though those rooms don’t look as appealing. Still, it could work as a budget option so close to the beach.

The staff were friendly, and there’s a small pool right by the beach. Wi-Fi worked well in the common areas, but there was no access in our room, so I had to go outside whenever I needed to get online.

The staff were nice and helpful, and breakfast was acceptable for the price, though it was nearly the same every day. There also weren’t many places to eat nearby. My room didn’t look like the photos and wasn’t in good shape. The windows on the fourth floor couldn’t be opened, and the old shower barely worked. There was no hot or even warm water for the first two days, or for one whole day near the end of my 11-night stay. I asked about upgrading, but they wanted $30 per night. The hotel is a long way from town, about a 30-40 minute drive, which I should have checked before booking. Wi-Fi was a disaster outside the lobby, so I went to Porlamar to get a local SIM card. The beach is nice, but it’s windy nonstop because of the location, and the water wasn’t very clean.

We had a wonderful stay at el Yake. There was plenty to do nearby, from windsurfing, kitesurfing, snorkeling, and fishing to boat trips to Coche island with an all-you-can-eat buffet. Our group stayed in suite 2A & 2AA, which sleeps 8. The balcony had a lovely beach view and a jacuzzi, and the kitchen, huge living room, and two dining tables worked really well for our family.
